Street Photography 9 - Zone test with f1.4 Rikkenon Lens 50mm

Here are my 9th attempt at Street Photography...

Camera: Pentax ME Super
Film: Kentmere iso400
Time: Early morning Saturday, 2010 - Snow Storm
Lens: F1.4 50mm Rikkenon

I went out on Saturday morning taking my XA and ME Super with me, its snowing hard and first time on such conditions. Not even cold and numbness in my hand tell me not to take photos outside downtown and looking for some interesting spots... here are some of my photos taken during this session.

I was pretty much dismayed by the results of my developed film, images which were supposed to be sharp and tack(@f1.4) looks soft and out of focus. It probably have something to do with the way I handled the film prior to developing and also I noticed a weak fixer and uneven development on some film areas.

Im still going to try out how sharp these lens are using Zone Focusing method. Maybe on my next session i'll bring two lenses on my next session to compare how sharp and tack they are onced got processed(hoping its a good development) One are Rikkenon F1.4 and the SMC Pentax F2.0 both prime lens and be used with zone focusing method.

Samsung Galaxy Captivate?

Recently I lost my phone after buying some goods on the grocey strore, I was really upset and mad at the same time having lost my contacts and files that comes with it. Its been days since I lost my nokia phone and decided to pick up a smartphone that can surf, make some little application and lots more.

So this is my choice and I was lucky to prefer this over the iphone 4/Blackberry which is quite popular here. It got pretty much all the things I ever needed for a phone aside from touch screen and downloadble application...(yeah ps1 games!) it got a decent 5.0 MP camera that goes with it too. I am excited to take some photos on my next session and was pretty surprised by the image quality this phone can produced.

Some camera controls for this phone are:

- iso can be set max of 800
- exposure compensation
- you can select which area to focus and its touch screen!
- has whitebalance and other photo effects
- has auto focus and macro modes too
- its pretty fast when taking photos
- panorama mode

Downside for this phone is I have to take out the SD memory card everytime I load/unload files, using a usb cable wont work with this phone and that's what turns me off(needs to find a compatible driver for my xp windows). Here are some photos of my new phone.

Street Photography 8 - Part 2 Zone Focusing Test with XA

Here are my 8th attempt at Street Photography...

Camera: Olympus XA
Film: Kentmere iso400
Time: Early morning Saturday, 2010

This is the continuation from the single roll of film I have taken on saturday morning. Scanning and processing this images takes some time to finish due to slow scanner and work/activities. Finally im glad I have finished scanning all of my images and here are some images I have selected to be posted on this blog.

Early shoppers: f11 zone focusing @ iso400

From subway: f11 @3m zone focusing 400iso

Mother and daugther: f11@3m zone focusing iso400

Wet floor: f11 @3m zone focusing iso400

What I noticed from this session is that my zone focusing works and was pretty decent enough to produced recognizable images. Its more fun with this method than what I have used to do, instead of trying to focus at every shot I just pre focus (zone focusing) and let it go.

One thing I wish when I was using this rangefinder XA camera is that it should have a manual settings too. On the other hand it is pretty decent and good all around camera if you know how to use it to its full potential. To make this camera(XA) a little bit faster which I did on my next photo session was setting it @iso800 using the same Kentmere 400 film, you can see the next photo when I have developed and scanned it.

Street Photography 8 - XA

Here are my 8th attempt at Street Photography...

Camera: Olympus XA
Film: Kentmere iso400
Time: Early morning Saturday, 2010

I was on the Dundas Eaton Center mall early in the morning, got a really heavy snowstorm during those time and I remember that I almost slipped because of those snow. It was about 10am in the morning and not much people yet and visibility is bad too because of the snow storm.

I wish I have taken a shot with my xa too outside but most of the shots were made with my me super camera. I only managed to get a couple of shots outside and the rest were taken inside the mall. Here are some of the photos taken during this session mostly taken with an apperture setting of f11 @3m zone focusing.

Street Photography - People 7 - Oly SPN 35

Here are my 7th attempt at Street Photography...

Camera: Olympus 35 SPN
Film: Kentmere iso400
Place: Skywalk
Time: Early morning Dec 30, 2010

This is the second camera I have bought with me this last December 2010. I just got it developed hours ago which took me almost 2weeks before this roll was developed! due to work and other activities. I was pretty much dissapointed seeing most of my shots were over exposed but did follow what the meter says on the SPN. It could probably due to battery voltage that makes the metering off-balanced... that's the term I would use.

Here are some of my photo shots with this session:

Bus2 - f2.4 in focus

Straight Ahead - zone focusing f11

Dont Run! - zone metering f11
Walknrun - zone metering f11

Out of 24 shots I only manage to pick like 4 or 6 images to be posted on my blog and some blurry shots was also made too which was quite dissapointing. I should have taken more consideration when shooting with this camera but anyway im glad I have sold this camera for $125 from the original price of $85.

Street Photography - People 6

Here are my 6th attempt at Street Photography...

Camera: ME SUPER
Film: Kentmere iso400
Place: Skywalk
Time: Early morning Dec 30, 2010

Went to skywalk this early morning to get some test roll of kentmere 400 on my ME SUPER camera. It was pretty much cold in the morning and my hand were a little shaky because of it. I got some interesting shots for this roll and was pretty contented with it even though only a few of them was chosen.

One thing I dont like about the kentmere 400 film is that color tones tend to be bland compared to other expensive film like t-max100 and has more grain... Ill try the kentmere 100 film next time and see how it fare.

Here are some photos taken with this session:

Lady with phone: This is the best shot for this session used a hyperfocal focusing with this shot and although its not that sharp but still recognizable and good anyway.
F11/3m
School Bus: This is the sharpest the f2.0 lens can be on my camera pretty much satisfied by the detail.

1 point view: I like how this photo turned out and hyperfocal works great with this one. f11/3m

Girl Eyes: This could shot could be more good if I waited for her to get closer to me and make the shutter speed a little bit faster so theres no blurryness at all. Hyperfocal seems to work on this one but a little bit blurriness because of the low shutter speed. F11/3m
Which Way?: Hyperfocal works on this one. f11/3m
